Acne

  • Dec. 24th, 2009 at 5:17 PM
OK, so at this point I have tried almost everything for my acne problem... I'm 21 and my skin used to be clear even during puberty. But this summer something happened and now I have acne all over my cheeks and cheekbones.  I have tried everything from OCM, lemon, tomatoes and oatmeal to fish oil supplements, and nothing seems to work.  I even went to a naturopath. He said that I have some sort of a lung and kidney defficiency, started acupuncture and gave me a bunch of herbal supplements, which I have been taking for about 5 days now.  I am hoping this will help (at least it is not getting worse, so this must be a good sign).

So my question is about natural moisturizers that are good for problem skin, and also any general advice on how to fight this problem. Has anyone had any success with naturopathic remedies?

Thanks and happy holidays!

Hi everybody =)

I stop using shampoo and conditioner about two weeks ago and replace it with chamomile + honey + one lemon and rosemary + one egg, and i'm doing it every four days, like this:
Day 1: chamomile + honey + lemon juice
Day 2: water only
Day 3: water only
Day 4: water only
Day 5: rosemary + one egg
Day 6: water only
Day 7: water only
Day 8: water only
Day 9: chamomile + honey + one lemon
Ok catch the idea =P By now my hair it's good, with a little of dandruff but good
I don't use baking soda or vinegar because i read opinions about them that dislike me, and i'm doing fine without them =)
Ok, i have a question, a little stupid but some comments here confuse me >_<...I'm suppose to wash my hair only with water when i don't use other things or directly don't wash it?
I mean, the water removes the natural oils too or not? If removes it i will start to not wash it with water anymore except when i use chamomile, honey and lemon juice and rosemary and eggs (i mean, only wash my hair every four days)
I hope you clean my mind =) Sorry if you don't understand something, i'm not very good speaking english =P

Hada's Honey Log

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 11:14 AM
Hi! I'm making a log about honey. I want to see what it can do for my skin, specially my acne: Hada's Honey Log Wish me luck!
I'd like to go back to not using shampoo (I tried it out during the summer, but due to the excessively hard water and lack of patience on my part I quickly abandoned the idea), but I have one problem - I'd like to go conditioner-only, but I'm not sure that all the icky things that coat your hair in hard-core shampoos will get rinsed out.

So the question is - should I do some scrubs or rinses along with the conditioner, at first, to get rid of all the (presumed) shampoo residue?

Lime Rinse

  • Dec. 17th, 2009 at 5:29 PM
so my no poo trip has gotten better. I know a couple have mentioned using citrus rinses. So I thought Okay, I'll give it a try. (I have a seedless lime tree in my front yard and they are giant sized and overly abundant this season) I don't usually measure how much water i add to my Lime rinse but i do use about a cup of lime juice. I find that on some really greasy hair days it can significantly cut the greasiness and rinses out and my hair remains smooth and shiny without as many fly always as my Bi-weekly bs/acv wash. I found that the lime juice works well when massaged into the scalp and rinsed out one or more times if necessary. And the smell is very tolerable. I haven't noticed any lightening in my hair with lime juice. But when i first started the BS/ACV after dying my hair, it lightened a lot plus i found the vinegar smell stayed.

I also learned that water temperature also makes a big difference when rinsing your hair out, before your done showering. the cooler the water, the less frizz for me, but being kind of chilly, its not always the most pleasant.!

I would really like to try some tea rinses can anyone recommend a specific kind of tea? and the proportions? it would really help!

Winter & curls

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 11:26 AM
Hey guys, I've been no-pooing for almost a year now and I'm really enjoying it. I've always had wavy hair that I tried to straighten but since starting no poo I've decided to work with my hair and the waves have become loose curls, which is pretty neat. Now winter seems to be messing up my plans.

I wear a toque (a close-fitting knitted hat, for you non-Canadians) and it seems to be flattening my curls at the top of my head. I'm also concerned that it might start to make my hair oilier faster, and since I've finally got my washes spaced out to every four days without looking gross on wash day, I definitely don't want to reverse my progress.

Are there any fellow cold-weather curly girls who can suggest alternative headwear? Would a loose, slouchy toque be better? (I'm thinking of maybe something like this.) A beret? I do have to deal with a Canadian winter so some sort of warm head-covering (that covers my ears) is essential and I can't just wear a hood because I need my peripheral vision, at least while driving until the car warms up. I can sort of knit and I can crochet fairly well so links to (preferably free) patterns, as well as yarn suggestions, are also welcome!

Eczema on my scalp :(

  • Dec. 13th, 2009 at 11:02 PM
So, I've been a long time lurker here, this is my first post so... bare with me.

First of all, I've been doing No poo since September and I'm really happy with how my hair is looking. I'm especially pleased with my lack of split ends, so I really don't want to stop doing it, but I feel like natural remedies haven't been helping.

At My Wit's End with Dry Skin

  • Dec. 13th, 2009 at 2:12 PM
Hello, I have dry skin and have tried a million and one different natural products to keep me moisturized, all to no avail. I eat a fairly healthy diet and drink lots of water, so I don't think there is much more I can do on that score. At this point, I've pretty much given up hope and am going back to petroleum jelly (which I was scared about before due to information about cancer risks), the only thing that has ever worked for me. The only other natural products I can think of that might work are shea butter (which is much too expensive to even think about trying) and beeswax, so I want to know if anybody with dry skin here has had success with beeswax. Does it work anywhere near as well as petroleum jelly or petroleum jelly products?

Candida, acne and probiotics questions

  • Dec. 12th, 2009 at 12:05 PM
Can probiotics survive stomach acid to get to the gut where they're needed??

Also, has anyone else investigated the possibility of their acne being caused by candida? It sounds crazy, but I went to a naturopath the other day and she took one look at my skin and was like "oh gosh, that looks like a candida reaction! Did you have a baby recently?"

YES.

So now I'm on a stronger probiotic and using Dr. Ohhira's Probiotic Kampuku Soap, which actually made the itchy breakout on my face feel NOT-itchy last night.

SO anyone use probiotics for acne, or this product or know anything about the candida/acne relation?
